Ventilation grilles

The ventilation grilles’ or ’air vents’ are the vents located in the middle of the ‘sidewalls’.

I have this schoepenroosters met in a local do-it-yourself store and are made from plastic. The dimensions are 150 mm x 220 mm.

This (dummy) grids must have the correct white color and are attached with 4 bolts. Maybe in a later stage, they can be connected to a custom designed ventilation system.

DV Window Handles

The ‘DV window handles’ are the handles for the opening and closing of the windows voorlinks (Capt) and voorrechts (F/O) (Direct view windows).

In the sim-cockpits are these windows only for decorative purposes. The 2 handles are different in performance depending on the to the left or to the right side. These handles are later on a mounting plate (DV handle mounting plate) is mounted such as to be found in the real aircraft. This ensures that the mounted handle a more realistic view.

This ‘DV window handles’ come from CATIII and are made with a 3D printer. The handles are provided with the necessary details such as the Boeing-inscriptions.

Oxygen panels

In the meantime I have been busy with the build and collecting the parts that are to be found in the ‘sidewalls’.

A whole list of to yourself to tinker or somewhere and ready to buy.

One of those parts are the ‘oxygen panels. Despite all the dimensions, pictures and info in my possession, I still considered them not to build.

Price/Quality it seemed to me interesting to buy them at CATIII.

Magnetic Declination – FS9 & FSX Navigation Datebase Update

Not directly to do with cockpitbuilding but still important in our simulator is that we have the right data to navigate.

FS9, FSX and P3D, one can be a bit like a phone book or street map, and that things are right, after a while, not more, street names and numbers change, and there come in here, as also in our navdata.

These data in our sims, such as magnetic variation (declination), navaids, fixes and after a time outdated and are not consistent with the current information they can find on recent vliegkaarten.

An update of these data in FS9, FSX and also P3D is quite easy to complete and this through the website of Herve Sors (AeroSors NavAids) :

  • This can be an update of all VOR's and NDB's, so that one can find on the current cards;
  • The correct calibration of the magnetic variation of navaids that are equipped with azimutinformatie (VOR, VORDME, NDB);
  • Right ILS Data.

Intercompaneel

I have further tinkered to my Intercompaneel i.e. the potentiometers mounted with control buttons and supplied with the necessary cables.

The back I covered with an aluminium tray. This to possible failures.

The actual intercommodule should now be further tested and afgetund be ...

Helpies

The word ‘Helpie’ is an own invention (I think anyway) and is an inflection of the word ‘Selfie’.

This time it has nothing to do with a ‘self-portrait’, but more specifically a (detail) picture from a real B737 cockpit. A ‘Helpie’ can serve as an example or as a guide in the construction of a homecockpit.

These photos are scattered from different photographers and from different B737-cockpits : http://www.flightdeck737.be/gallery/helpies/

GoPro shots

A number of photos taken with a GoPro camera (Black + edition).

What is remarkable is the wide-angle side and the high Iso setting, allowing you a wide and clear image and this in a small and dark space.

Aural Warning System

The ‘Aural Warning System in my cockpit is a separate part of the ‘Cockpit Audio System, " and is composed of :

  • Aural Warning Module (AWM);
  • Speaker(s) (instead of horns, clackers and bell);
  • Prosim Audio module.

The OEM version of the ‘Aural Warning Module (AWM) is a mechanical device that is located to the right of the throttle quadrant, against the wall of the CDU-bay’ (forward bulkhead MIP).

This device indicates the different ‘warnings’, such as short tones of ‘horns’, ‘clackers’, or bell sound and this in a loud and clear way. This to the crew to warn of a problem or a wrong configuration of the aircraft.

In the real version there are internal ‘horns’, ‘clackers’ and a bell. In my version, there is only one speaker built in. A ‘Prosim Audio Module sends all sounds through this speaker.

My AWM is custom made, because of lack of space is my AWM a lot thinner than the real 800-series version.

B737 MCP Honeywell style knobs

All of the buttons on my MCP, I have replaced by detailed replicas as the real world Honeywell MCP.

The buttons that are on the CPFlight B737 EL MCP, there seem to be absolutely not in the real versions. These buttons are just standard buttons found in every electronics shop you can find.

The replicas I found at Jacob Wiqvist from Sweden. As a hobbyist, he is starting to experiment with the making of B737-buttons.

The result may be seen. The MCP replica-buttons of Jacob Wiqvist are very nicely finished and very detailed.

For each user of the CP Flight B737 EL MCP, this is a little extra to the realism again what up to boost. For me a must !

Again it is difficult plooiwerk and the bending of the aluminum.

The attachments are :

  • Speaker;
  • Emergency Escape Rope panel;
  • Air vent grille (air-Conditioning);
  • Air vent eyeball (air-Conditioning).
