Gear Pin Stowage |

The pedestal (After Electronic panel) I expanded further with the ‘Gear Pin Stowage’.

Before the departure, on the ‘walk-around checks’, one of the crew members of the ‘3 gear pins( (downlock pin) in the cockpit.

They are typically stored in one of the rear side pockets of the sidewalls.

In the Ryanair Boeings, they have a separate provision on the back of the pedestal (Aft electronic panel). This gives you a nice overview that the 3 gear pins are present.

Real version

The removal of the 3 pins is actually a part of the ‘preflight checklist’ (gear pins removed). So it is very important that they not be forgotten.

This ‘gear pin stowage’ is composed of 5 parts :

Pins;
Small locking pins;
Vlagjes ‘Remove before flight’ with the spring clips;
Rack with 3 openings;
Shielding/storage tray.

Pins
The 3 pins are made from a aluminiumbuisje of 10 mm thick and they are 225 mm long. Above are 2 holes drilled. One for a small horizontal pin and one for the spring clip of the country flag.
The pins are subsequently sanded with a fine sandpaper (grit 320) to a nicer surface.

Small locking pins
These locking pins are made of 3 nails and have a size of 50 mm length and 3 mm in thickness. They are in the upper hole of the gear pin’ is placed (glued).

Vlagjes ‘Remove before flight’
This vlagjes come from the military aviation and have happen to be at home out of the blue with a en-route of a F16 ... 😉
The spring clips are rings used for keys or key chains.

Rack
The rack is made of aluminium of 2 mm thickness. This is subsequently sanded with a fine sandpaper (grit 320) to a nicer surface. See image for the dimensions.

Shielding/storage tray
This serves for the shielding of the pins and the storage of the vlagjes.
The receptacle is made of aluminum of 1.5 mm thickness. The receptacle is again sanded with a fine grit. See image for the dimensions.

The folds of the aluminum

The aluminium panels for the rack and storage tray, I tucked in a simple way. I have first a plooilijn drawn on the alu panel, and then between 2 Mdf boards and placed this with the plooilijn right on the edge of the 2 Mdf shelves. The shelves with alu panel will be properly secured to a workbench with the soldiers wish to find (big lijmtangen).

Then another mdf shelf with the flat side or plankrand printed on folding aluminium section until the correct fold is obtained. Ultimately, one can with a hammer on the Mdf-board knock to the aluminum to make the folds. Alu of e.g. 2 mm is very thick to folds...
